| Feedback on 2011 Conference Themes and Topics | |
The M&GSQ State Conference provides a major professional development opportunity for gallery and museum paid and volunteer staff throughout Queensland. A full program of masterclasses, skill sessions and keynote speakers over two and a half days will explore topical issues in museum and gallery practice. The Conference also provides an ideal time to network with colleagues from around the state.
As a result of initial consultation M&GSQ has developed a number of preliminary themes, sub-themes and topics for the 2011 State Conference.
These themes and topics provide an opportunity to update knowledge in areas of ongoing interest to museums and galleries. They also canvass issues that have emerged during the four years since the 2007 State Conference.
THEME 1 'Working local . . .' looks at a number of key areas that are integral to working effectively locally and regionally.
THEME 2 'Designed to succeed.' Appropriate design for a building or for a project is a key to success. This theme looks at how a good understanding of people, place, and purpose can make a difference.
THEME 3 'Inconvenient Stories'. This theme explores the challenges and rewards of broaching difficult or contested topics.
THEME 4 'Not what they used to be: the changing nature of collections.' Museums and galleries are facing new challenges for collections storage, care and display - and changing audience expectations. This theme explores current issues.
M&GSQ is seeking your feedback and suggestions regarding a range of sub-themes and topics grouped under each of the four broad themes outlined above. We would appreciate your feedback via the online survey or by filling in the questionnaire (available to the right) and emailing it back to us.
Please return the completed survey to M&GSQ by 4 August 2010.
If you have any further queries, please contact Aimee Board, Training and Professional Development Coordinator, M&GSQ on 07 3215 0844 or email aimee.board@magsq.com.au
